SPO — International Symposium on Photonics and Optics

The Department of Optics organises the SPO symposium at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; twenty-six have been held. The twenty-seventh takes place on 28 September – 3 October 2026 at the Faculty of Physics, in hybrid format. Abstracts are accepted until 15 September 2026.

About the symposium

SPO brings together researchers working on photonics, optical materials and related technologies. It is held in partnership with OPTICA, SPIE, the Paul Scherrer Institute and Shizuoka University, together with the Lashkaryov Institute of Semiconductor Physics and other institutional and commercial partners.

Since 2022 the symposium has run in hybrid mode, on site and in Zoom, which keeps it open to colleagues who cannot travel to Kyiv.

Students of the department present alongside invited speakers, and for many it is a first conference contribution. They also take a large part in organising it, from the programme to receiving guests.
